Following their 2-0 win earlier today against the Afreeca Freecs, the ROX Tigers are the first team mathematically guaranteed at the upcoming League of Legends World Championship, which will be taking place in October in the United States.
The victory secured the Tigers first place in the regular season of the 2016 LCK Summer Split, and automatically qualified the team to the finals, which awards the runner-up 90 Championship Points (the Korean Champion qualifies to Worlds as the region’s first seed). Add that to the 70 points the Tigers obtained in the Spring Split, the team have now 160 Championship Points, and cannot be surpassed by any opponent, meaning that they have clinched at least Korea’s second seed into the World Championship.
The ROX Tigers will be looking to win their first domestic title, after losing two finals (Spring 2015 and 2016) to rivals SK Telecom T1, which managed to secure second place in the regular season, despite losing to Longzhu Gaming.
