After being first reported on May 7th, football Bundesliga club Schalke 04 confirmed today the purchase of EU LCS side Elements. According to Schalke 04 Arena Management chairman Moritz Beckers-Schwarz, “Esports has drastically increased in terms of professionalism within the last years,” and added by saying that “(particularly) noteworthy is the development of structures within League of Legends and the flagship League of Legends Championship.”

The new organization will be known as Schalke 04 Esports, and will retain Elements’ management and coaching staff, including Jacob “Maelk” Toft-Andersen, who will be responsable for the entire Esports division of the “Königsblauen”,  and head coach Patrick “Nyph” Funke, alongside four – Top laner Etienne “Steve” Michels, Jungler Berk “Gilius” Demir, ADC Rasmus “MrRalleZ” Skinneholm and Support Hampus “sprattel” Abrahamsson – of the team’s members, with the notable exception of Mid laner Jérémy “Eika” Valdenaire, replaced in favor of Hampus “Fox” Myhre, who is coming after playing the Spring Split for the Unicorns of Love.

FC Schalke 04, from Gelsenkirchen, North-Rhine-Westphalia, ended the season in 5th place in the German Bundesliga, the country’s top football tier, and is the club with the 6th largest number of associates in the world. Usually present at major European competitions like the UEFA Champions League, Schalke was also ranked by the Forbes magazine as the 14th most valuable club in the world, with a net value of $655 million.
